In the event of an emergency involving Portland-Montreal Pipe Line you should ensure your personal safety and that of others around you. Immediately do the following:
- Leave the area and call 911 or your local Emergency Number
- Call Portland-Montreal Pipe Line collect at 207-767-3231 in the US or 514-645-4589 in Canada (24 hours a day) and give a location of the problem
- Remain upwind at a safe distance and minimize the fire potential by keeping ignition sources away. Warn others.
What Not to Do
- To minimize fire potential, do not light a match, start an engine, use a telephone or camera or do anything that will create a spark.
- To minimize personal exposure, do not enter the area or touch or breathe the liquid.
- Do not hinder containment, repair or clean up activities
Signs of a Pipeline Product Release
- Sight - A mist, white cloud or accumulation of petroleum on the ground. Dying vegetation on a green corridor.
- Sound - An unusual noise, like a hissing or roaring sound.
- Smell - A characteristic petroleum odor.
Portland-Montreal Pipe Line will work with local emergency management officials to resolve the problem.
